The DMS Wants to Know!

Mondays' Riddle was all about poetry, and we're big fans of it around this corner of the book block. Lizzy's review revealed the mysterious nature of the poem, and today we want to hear from you!

The DMS wants to know:
Is there a poem or poet you enjoy? Have you written any poetry?

We'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Loving this verse, I'm sure many of us bookish types will identify with it.

Whilst not a lover of poetry, I prefer it read to me and not by me, I do love the cat poems of TS Eliot.

  2. Trust me, you don't want me writing poetry.
I follow a couple poets here online that are really good - Pat Hatt, Ella, Yvonne Lewis, Truedessa, Hank...

  4. I write some poetry and read a lot of it. There are some wonderful children's poets I follow, but if I had to choose favorites, I would mention Amy Ludwig VanDerwater and Joyce Sidman.

  6. What a lovely poem. My first published work was actually a poem. My 8th grade teacher sent my poem Stars to a high school anthology and it was published in Young America Sings. Even though that was year ago, I still have a copy of the book. Haven't tried poetry lately. Love to read it.

  10. I wouldn't say that I know poetry very well at all but I do enjoy it. I've fallen in love with Shakespeare over the past couple of years so I think I'd choose him as my favorite.

I read a lot more poetry in high school: T.S. Eliot, Robinson Jeffers, Christina Rossetti. I wrote a lot more poetry in high school, too. :)

  13. I wrote some poetry while at school, but I don’t think any of it was very good. I like something with a little mystery or intrigue. The listeners by Walter de la Mare always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up – that for me signifies a good poem. ;-)

  15. When I was 12 or 13, I started a book of poetry and wrote it all the way through college. Those are some bad poems, but at least it started me writing!

  19. I admire poets. However, I am not a poet in any way. Seriously, that's why I admire poets so much. My favorite poet is Dorothy Parker. I love her sarcasm and her poems are easy for me to understand. I get sarcasm.

  21. I love anyone who can be considered to be a Romantic. :)
And I love lots of Czech poets, but I'm not sure how many of them have been translated into English. I especially love Jan Skacel. :)

  22. I have often said, my heart belongs to stories but my soul belongs to poetry. Yes, I write poetry and I love to read it. Robert Frost and Edgar Allan Poe are two of my all time favorites, along with the Scottish Romance poets.
