The DMS Wants to Know!

This week has been quite an education! Monday's Riddle opened up the subject of teachers, and Lizzy transported us back into the classroom with her review of the middle grade novel, Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob BuyeaOn Top of the Heap, we enjoyed sharing our thoughts about a couple of teachers who we felt deserved to be mentioned. And Friday, Sarah Weeks, author of the delicious novel PIE stopped by to tell us a little more about her story. Plus, the Last Days of Freedom Book Giveaway Hop will be running until Wednesday, August 22nd. We are giving away some great middle grade titles, so be sure to check it out. Today, we want to hear your thoughts about teachers and how they have impacted your life!

The DMS wants to know: Who do you think is a truly great teacher? What lessons did they teach you?

We'll told you ours, now let's hear yours!

  3. This may sound silly, but honestly my children have been the best teachers in my life: they've taught me to love unconditionally, to have an open mind to new ideas & technologies & people. They've also taught me what it means to sacrifice and give from the heart. They've certainly taught me patience lol

Also, they've taught me to kick serious butt at video games, which is pretty darn cool <3 :D

  4. Hmm, tough question, but one who stands out was a university tutor of mine who taught me a lot about the meaning of "success" and that it's more important to take your own right path than to try and meet others' expectations.

  6. Hi Jess: Thanks for stopping by again.

I'll never forget my 5th grade teacher. She was the first non-family related adult to encourage my writing and make me feel like I had a talent.

I was also lucky to have two really tough journalism professors. They were hard on me - on all of us - but they made me work harder and strive to do better.

  7. I've several super teachers, but two stand out as special and I think that even though they were distinctly different, they both guided me into the love of books. For that I will always be grateful.

  8. we just had this discussion!! and the kids seem to like the teachers that have high expectations of themselves and their students....and they tell me how in their classes the kids behave and listen and the same kids in another class are running all over the place throwing paper balls...I could never be a teacher! I admire teachers.

  9. My sophomore year English teacher made me want to become a teacher, which I did. He was so enthusiastic about books, and that enthusiasm was contagious. When I was in college, I had to write an essay about someone who inspired me to become a teacher and I wrote about him. I sent it to him too, as a way to say thank you for the positive influence he had on me.

  11. Katertot here! I love this post. The best teacher I've ever had would have to be my mom. She inspires me every day to do my best and be creative. I loved your choices of teachers, too! Professor McGonagall is the BEST! <3

Michele here! I've been blessed with many great teachers in my life, with the most wonderful being my parents and my daughter. As parents, we try to teach our children every day, but I have found that I learn how to be a better person from Katertot every day. ;)
