Alice adores her aunt Polly and loves her aunt’s pies, especially peach. She isn’t the only one- everyone in town and across the country cannot get enough of the delicious, mouthwatering, perfect pies that are baked in Aunt Polly’s shop. People would pay top dollar for a slice of coconut crème or blueberry, but Polly doesn’t want money for her pies because she loves making them so much. It is her passion and baking makes her happy. She makes a crust like no other- and no one knows how she does it. When Polly dies unexpectedly she leaves her cat, Lardo, to Alice, and she leaves the pie crust recipe to her cat. How do you get a recipe from a cat? Then, someone breaks in to the pie shop looking for something. Next, Lardo gets catnapped and it is up to Alice and an unlikely friend to solve this mystery. Do you love pie? Do you love a good mystery? If so, then you should get out and read Pie by Sarah Weeks to find out if they will be able to discover the secret pie crust recipe.
Reading this book made my mouth water! I wanted my favorite pie, blueberry, but I also found myself wanting other types of pie, too. This book is fast and unique. I loved trying to solve the mystery along with Alice and her friend. I think kids between the ages of 8-13 would find this book to be a must read. Anyone who is a fan of pie will enjoy it, at any age! Each chapter starts with a recipe, which include tips for making it. I am hoping to try making some of these pies. How fun! I met the author, Sarah Weeks, when I was at the Children’s Book Fair. She was so nice and funny! She told Fairday and me that if someone makes a pie, takes a picture of it, and sends it to her she may put it up on her blog. How cool is that?
Has anyone ever read Pie? Or another book by Sarah Weeks? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Happy reading!

ReplyDeleteOMG! I LOVE pie- For me it's cherry, apple, or pumpkin! Sarah Weeks was really nice-It was cool to meet her and listen to her stories about some of the kids that she's talked to in schools across the nation. There were some pretty hilarious tales...I think I am going to make a pie, take a picture, and then send it to her- Lizzy, do you want to do this together???? ~ F
