The Hidden Stairs and the Magic Carpet

If you have ever dreamed of discovering a magical world hidden in your own home, then you will be captivated by The Secret of Droon: The Hidden Stairs and the Magic Carpet by Tony Abbott. Eric, Neal, and Julie are working together to clean out Eric’s basement when they realize there is a rainbow staircase in a small hidden room. They are puzzled by the new stairs which seem to lead down into the ground. Bravery in numbers helps this trio to descend the rainbow stairs and enter a world they never could have imagined. There they meet an interesting cast of characters and are needed to help solve a serious problem. Can they help their new friends? Will Eric, Neal and Julie be able to get back home? Read the first book in this series to begin to answer those questions and more.

This is a very fast read and it is perfect for any time that you are looking for a book you can finish in a day or two. The magical elements will appeal to those who like fantasy. I think kids between the ages of 7 and 11 will love this book if they like new worlds, wizards, and mystery. The three main characters have a good friendship and I think it makes the story more interesting that all three of them travel to this exciting world together. I enjoyed this book and will probably read others in the series. I just found out that there are over 30 books in the series! Wow!

Has anyone else read any of The Secret of Droon books? Or another book by Tony Abbott?

Happy Reading!

  1. I read the first 7 or 8 books in this series. They were good. I didn't love them, but I enjoyed them and they kept my interest. I agree with you that they are a great quick read. I haven't read anything else by this author- but I have wanted to read Firegirl.

    Awesome review.

  7. Thanks to our new followers! Yeah!

I agree with everyone- the cover is awesome. All the covers in the series are pretty cool. This is a series that will keep kids (and adults who like these books, too) enteratianed for hours and hours! Plus, they aren't super long- so you feel like you accomplished something. :) Love that!

  9. Love the cover and the story sounds like something I would enjoy. When I was much, much younger I loved the magic faraway tree (a strange land at the top of the clouds) and any of the Enid Blyton mystery stories so I'm sure this would be right up my street (or down my rainbow staircase!)

Barbara- You are so clever- I love that you said right down your raibow staircase! :) I need to read The Magic Faraway Tree! Someone else mentioned it to me, and I have never heard of it. Thanks for reminding me!
