It's A Boo-K Bash at the Begonia House!

Welcome to Mr. Morrow's Haunted Parlor!
We're celebrating the release of book 2 in the Fairday Morrow series. The next case in the DMS files is open for investigation.
Anything's possible! Mwahaha...
Find out what's happening at the Begonia House.
Catch the book trailer!

Fairday Morrow had no clue that moving from Manhattan to the small town of Ashpot, Connecticut, would lead to an unsolved mystery. Her parents’ dream of renovating a crumbling Victorian, called the Begonia House, into a bed and breakfast had seemed like treachery at the time. But Fairday found out that her new house kept secrets, and once inside its twisted front gates, anything was possible. When mysterious notes start showing up warning that a librarian is in trouble and a bookworm is eating words, Fairday thinks the Begonia House has more skeletons in its closets. What happens to stories when their words get eaten?
Early reviews for Fairday Morrow and the Talking Library

"Fairday jumps into a new world within her own, along with her trusty sidekick friends, and meets fascinating new characters. It's a world of bookworms (who actually eat words!) and wordweavers (cool job!) where children are needed to save books from disappearing. Books truly live and breathe in this story - literally! What a fun place to be where ink is alive and books can talk and you can enter stories and meet characters."
~ Donna Galanti, Author

"Stephanie Robinson and Jessica Haight have created a satisfying sequel to the first book in the Fairday Morrow series. Once again, we return the the quaint town of Ashpot and follow Fairday, Marcus, and Lizzy (the DMS) as they solve a puzzling, paranormal mystery. The secrets of the Begonia House deepen and the DMS discover the Talking Library. Bravo to the authors for creating such a cool library with poisonous punctuation--brilliant! Loved the uniqueness of the world building there."
~ Kourtney Heintz, Author

"If you love riddles, you will absolutely enjoy Fairday Morrow and the Talking Library. The second in the Fairday Morrow series, Fairday and her Detective Mystery Squad jump right into their next mystery."
~ Trina, Book Reviewer

Stephanie and Jess met freshman year of high school. It was in English class where they first discovered they liked the same books. Their friendship grew, and over the years they went on to work as servers together, go to the same college for a short time, and they even became roommates for a while. Many books were discussed, but none were ever written. Now, after the release of their first middle grade novel, The Secret Files of Fairday Morrow, Stephanie and Jess are excited to keep building the mystery in Fairday Morrow and the Talking Library. Anything’s possible!

You're Invited to a Boo-K Bash at the Begonia House!

"Hello! I'm Fairday's mom, Pru, and I'm here to invite you to Fairday's "Boo-K" Bash on Monday, October 23rd on the blog. We're all excited for the Halloween party to celebrate the release of Fairday Morrow and the Talking Library

When Fairday and her best friend, Lizzy, came up with the idea to have guests come as their favorite book characters, I thought it would be such fun! But, my husband, Pat, and I were concerned about pulling it all together at such a busy time- with the renovations for the bed and breakfast and settling into a new home with two kids, it's been challenging.

We decided it would be good for Fairday to socialize with her classmates, plus the designer in me was itching to transform this grand, old beauty into proper haunted house. My husband's enthusiasm has been through the roof, and there has been a whirlwind of creepy creativity around here. I can guarantee Mr. Morrow's Haunted Parlor will make you scream.

With limited time to manifest this frightful evening, I was pleased with the invitations by Paperless Post. I always insist Fairday invite every student in her class to parties, and this service makes the task simple and fun! I love being able to use my own design, and having the invitation open online like a real letter seems magical, like owl post, only sent on the web.

Here is your invitation to the "Boo-K" Bash. Join us to celebrate the next case in the DMS files. Fear not the unexpected. Anything's possible!

A Spooky Stroll...

It's the perfect time of year for a spooky walk through an enchanted forest. You never know what you'll find in these woods, anything's possible!

"Hello! I'm Mystrella, and I'm here to keep you on the right path in these tricky woods. My friends will help too, but I wouldn't trust Cat, and keep clear of Spider's web, unless you 'd like to get caught up in a story. Now then, If you've gathered your wits, follow me, but step lightly upon entering the forest. You don't want to wake up anything we'd rather stay asleep."

"Colors burst amidst the buzzing and flurry of letting things go. The cycle turns, and the forest radiates magic for those who see. For those who do not; be warned, you will."

"Meow, human. You meowst likely need directions. I could point out the right way, but that's not meow style; take the road to the cottage in the middle of the dancing trees. There you'll find Snake sipping soup. Ask him to tell you where tricky Spider is. If you're lucky, he won't bite. If you're something special, he'll give you a hiss. Meow."

"You've found Cottage #5, and Snake didn't bite. You must be something special. The next part of the journey won't be so easy. To continue, you must find the secret water and answer the nymph's question. If you're correct, she'll show you the way to the Faerie Market. Only the cleverest humans can enter. If you do, prepare to be delighted, but don't be fooled. There are those who will deceive you for their gain."

"Shifting shadows, light you see. Matters not what it be. Summer beams in the sun. Winter, snow is sure to come. Spring blooms, flowers pop. Fall is when these do drop. Tell me, what falls in fall? If you know, the Faerie Market awaits."

"Correct! Leaves fall in fall. Speaking of leaving..."

VISIT THE FAERIE MARKET

"Eh, Mystrella! The Great Pumpkin 'ere. I see you've brought 'em humans around. Goin' ta have a chat with me ol' friend, Ferry. He's good for eh scare! Follow me if ya want to catch eh few monsters in Halloween Town.

"If you've made it this far, you'll no doubt make it through the forest. Watch out for the greedy color hungry goblins in the Valley of the Rainbow, but don't worry, the flowers keep a keen eye. Until we meet again, hold magic in your heart and enjoy your world!"

Will the Goblins Get the Rainbow?

This week, we're featuring a book that I came across because of my parents' love for music and art. The Rainbow Goblins by Ul De Rico is in the spotlight today. The band Primus recently released a new album based on this story, and I had never heard of it before! It's a wonderful fairy tale, and being set to music makes the scenes come to life. I'm delighted by the mixed media of illustration, story, and music. What a great way to paint a picture in the mind's eye. The vibes are deep and textured, and this is a book that will definitely be added to my private collection.

My family listened to the chapters online, read by the character, Christopher P. Bacon. It was a delight to hear the words, then sit back and imagine the story to music. The illustrations and songs pluck the strings of imagination, but they might be a little scary. My two year old sister, Margo, is very brave and curious about things, so she loved it, but have a listen before you share it with a youngster. My whole family enjoyed every bit, and we devoured it all. :)

What happens when seven goblins plot to invade the valley of the rainbow and catch colors in their lassos to eat? Each is hungry for its own color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet, and each is wanting to fill its belly with the creamy deliciousness of a rising rainbow.

After a thunderstorm passes, the goblins dream of the feast that awaits. But underestimating flower power in the magical valley may lead the greedy goblins into a trap.

What will happen to the rainbow if the goblins devour its colors and desaturate the land until it's cold and gray? How will the rainbow escape their insatiable appetites for its tantalizing spectrum? You'll have to read (or listen!) to this brilliant story to find out!

This book is the sequel to The White Goblin, and I'm interested to read that story too. It has been a long time since I've stumbled upon a fairy tale that's new to me, and I'm delighted to have found this one. It even inspired fan art. Thanks to the band Primus for introducing it to me!

Has anyone else read The Rainbow Goblins by Ul De Rico? Or have you listened to the album The Desaturating Seven by Primus. We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Reading!
