Will Winter Ever End?

Grand Jane always tells Jennifer (Fer) that she must come home right after school, and that the woods are a dangerous place for her. But Fer loves the woods and feels as if they speak to her, she can't help but sneak away whenever possible. When she touches the lake and electricity shoots through her fingers she's not prepared for what happens next. Suddenly there's a boy being attacked by wolves. After saving him, she brings him to her house against his will. This is the catalyst for Fer learning about where she comes from. Finding out that she's from another world and that her father once went through “the way” to be with her mother, Fer knows that she must do the same. Only showing up in a strange land and not knowing who to trust is very difficult. Fer is weary of “the lady” who says she was friends with her parents. Although she doesn't understand the ways of this world, Fer is doing her best to bring springtime to this Winterland and her home. Is “the lady” to be trusted? Is spilling blood the only way to end winter on either side of the way? Will Fer ever find out what happened to her parents? Jump into this book to discover a new world!

This was the first book I've read by Sarah Prineas. Winterling is a fantasy novel that will entice those who love books about other lands and different creatures. I liked the way the characters were developed, and I could relate to the main character, Jennifer. She's kind and helpful, even to those who aren't nice to her. It made me want to be friends with her! It was interesting to learn about the herbs that Grand Jane teaches Fer about, and I enjoyed trying to figure out who Jennifer should and shouldn’t trust. I wouldn’t want to be in a land where it's winter all the time, but Fer handles the situation better than I would. This is the first in a series of three books, and I look forward to reading the rest!

Has anyone else read Winterling? Or have you read another book by Sarah Prineas? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Happy reading!

Answer to Monday's Riddle: Winter Is Coming...

Excellent guessing, Riddlers! This week Lizzy's review will introduce us to a Winterling. We look forward to sharing our thoughts and hearing yours. See you all around the book block. ; ) ~ F

When I come round, colors dance to their end. I've a chill for your bones, plus a cold snap to lend. There's a harvest to reap by my sister's delight, but she'll vanish as soon as the last leaf takes flight. The tell on me's bitter, as one of the four; when I come knocking, you'll shut the door. A watch is set to anxiously wait, as winter is coming, ordained by fate.

What am I referring to?(fill in the blank ;) Answer: Winter!
