The DMS Wants to Know!

Monday's Riddle took us into a cave, and Lizzy's review of The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau was a trip into the light. Friday, it was awesome to chat with Cynthia DeFelice about her stellar stories, Signal and The Ghost of Fossil Glen. Today, we want to hear from you!

The DMS wants to know: Have you ever explored a cave?

Week theme: Caves

  1. South Africa have the fabulous Cango Caves - nowadays a visit is a carefully organised guided tour but when you are there its easy to imagine how exciting it must have been to discover and explore this wonderland for the first time :)

  4. Not a cave as such but as a girl I went down a slate mine in Wales which is comprised of several caves then a few years ago I was lucky enough to go down a salt mine in Poland also made up of several caves one of which contained an underground cathedral, another, would you believe it?, a hospital.

    1. Petty- The Slate mine in Wales sounds so interesting. I also went to the SAME salt mine in Poland! Thanks for including the link for people. It was fascinating to go so far underground and to see what was built beneath the earth. I was surprised by how chilly it was down there! Lots of interesting statues, drawings, and other features below the ground! ~Stephanie

  5. Oh yes! They're wonderful and scary and exciting places. Oh, and dark. You never know dark until you're under ground with no lights.

  7. ::shudder:: not really. I am so not a nature girl and caves are way too close to nature for me and they're so dark and gah a bug could creep right on up to me before I knew it. lol I am such a wuss. The natural history museum my mom works at is about as close to a cave as I'm willing to go. They have a nice one set all up with fake...everything. That I can handle. heh

    1. Herding Cats- I think that caves are not for everyone and it is important to know the ones we like to go in (like the ones in museums or the ones out in nature). :) ~L
