I'm so excited to bring you Margo's children's book choice for today! She has decided to tell you about one of my own favorite stories; the Roman myth of the reason for the seasons- the tale of Ceres and Prosperpina- Daughter of Earth retold and illustrated by Gerald McDermott. This amazingly illustrated version will keep you at the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen if Prosperpina eats the food of the underworld. Will she have to marry Pluto? What will her mother think? What will happen to Earth if spring never arises?
Margo was lost in the pictures! This is a magnificent story and a fascinating way to look at the creative magic of our minds, which is found buried deep within in the natural world that surrounds us all. I would recommend this book to all those who can't help but to get lost in myth. ; )
Happy reading! ~ F
Love the illustrations :D She's all...flowy. It's different.
ReplyDeleteI got confused for a second because I know this myth but the names were wrong. But it's the ROMAN myth. That's so weird that Greek and Roman myths can be the same but there names different. I wonder who came up with what first.
