Top of the Heap!

Book Vault at the Vatican
Monday's Riddle was a trip to the library, and Lizzy's review of Inkheart by Cornelia Funke told us the story of Meggie and her incredible journey into a house of books. Friday, Margo has a great story that she wants to share with you, and Saturday, we can't wait to hear about your favorite spots to find a good read on The DMS Wants to Know. Today, we thought it would be fun to tell you about two incredible libraries that we would love to visit- plus, I had to include the Vatican (top picture) because, who wouldn't want to peruse all of those old, hidden treasures?

Has anyone ever visited the book vault at the Vatican? If so, what books did you get to view?

This week's top of the heap: Excellent libraries!

Lizzy: Oh my, I love them all! BUT, for me, I would want to go to the library at Hogwarts. How cool is it that the books can just put themselves away, and some have ancient enchantments that make them speak or rain. Also, imagine what stories and reference materials you would find in there! I would definitely want to visit the restricted section, and could spend hours sitting at a table and poking though all the many pages of the libraries magical contents. When is my owl going to show up anyway? ~ L

Fairday: I love the smell of books, especially old books that have a little mystery to them- no cover, with a musty, sweet scent- and I always like to visit the library. One of these days, I am going to find some ancient treasure tucked onto a shelf that no one else has noticed. I think I would like to go to Dream's library from the Sandman Series by Neil Gaiman. These books are for older readers, but the stories are amazing, and the illustrations are fantastic. Touring Dream's library would be an awesome experience, and it would be so cool to be showed around by Lucien, the Head Librarian!

  3. Yes, please take me to both these libraries. I could live in a library for sure! Or a bookstore we have Powell's downtown that is so enormous I could stay in there for a week.

  9. Oh I thought you were going to say real libraries but Hogwarts is the greatest dream library I could ever want. I was thinking I would want to go to Shakespeare and Co. and Powell's Books in... Portland I believe.

  12. Nothing like the smell and feel of 'tree'books, I love libraries and especially old ones. Our newly built library just isn't the same as the old one it replaced.

    1. Petty- There is nothing like that smell! Old libraries are the best. :) ~L

  13. While modern libraries are light and airy and inviting, I still love those with dark nooks and crannies. Somehow they seem just the right place to open a book and enter a story.
