A snow day across New England! Yeah : ) Margo and I woke up this morning just in time to see the first snow flakes start to fall. The wind picked up a bit, and we both climbed onto the couch to watch the storm moving in. My dad came down the stairs with the perfect story to begin our wintery Friday. The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats will take you right into a scene of fluffy, sparkling white. Follow along with Peter, as he bundles up, and opens his door to a winter wonderland.
My dad did an awesome job of reading this book to us, and it's always fun to listen to a story. Unfortunately, I can't send my dad over to you, but here's link to the audio book on you tube : )
Happy snow day everyone! ~ F & M
The Snowy Day is the simple tale of a boy waking up to discover that snow has fallen during the night. Keat's illustrations, using cut-outs, are watercolors, and collage, and strikingly beautiful in their understated color and composition. The tranquil story mirrors the calm presence of the paintings, and both exude the silence of a freshly snow-covered landscape. The little boy celebrates the snow-draped city with a day of humble adventures... read more.

I used to love having snow days! I'd run downstairs and turn on the tv in hopes to see my school's name scrolling across the bottom of the screen. It felt like a special Christmas present when I saw it. I'd have to stand there and see it again, just to make sure. Then it was time to wake up my brother and sister so we could all go outside and build the BEST SNOW FORT EVER!!!
ReplyDeleteAngela- Snow days are the best! It is so exciting to know that the whole day is before you and anything can happen. :) I love building forts and playing in the snow and then coming in and having hot chocolate. ~L
DeleteSounds like a great start to your day.

Thank you!!! I couldn't figure out what this book was called for the longest time. I've never had a snow day thanks to living in Florida but honestly I don't mind that much. I would freeze to death.
ReplyDeleteAdriana- So glad I could help! I am sure the Florida weather makes up for never having a snow day. It is exciting to wake up in the morning and find out school is cancelled. But- the warm weather is nice, too! ~F
DeleteGreat post, I loved snow days! I wish I could return to that kind of innocence and unbridled joy, when school was called off and a snow day was upon us! Thanks for the great post (and good luck surviving the storm).
ReplyDeletePaul R. Hewlett
