Top of the Heap! DMS Favorites...

This week we thought it would be fun to chat about music- dusting off some oldies, but goodies- So, here's what's at the top of the heap for the DMS this week... The Beatles!

Fairday: My favorite Beatles song is... Octopus's Garden! I think this song is so fun! My dad absolutely loves it- as you can imagine if you know anything about my father (Mr. Morrow). He just flips over the top when he hears it. He even has a silly dance that he does- it always cracks me up!

Best part of the song:
We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an Octopus's Garden in the shade
I also wanted to mention Eleanor Rigby. My mom loves this one. The lyrics are sad, but beautiful- they really make you think about people and their connections.   beatles - eleanor rigby.mp3

Lizzy: I am a big fan of Imagine by the Beatles because it makes me think of a world where everyone is equal and everyone will be kind to each other.  I think it is possible! beatles - imagine.mp3

Best part of the song:
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

I also wanted to mention The Long and Winding Road- I love the music and the lyrics. They make me think that there are some people that I can always count on- no matter what.  beatles-the long and winding road.mp3

Does anyone else have a favorite Beatles song that they would like to chat about?

  1. I like Eleanor Rigby and Imagine, too! Haven't heard Octopus's Garden, but will be checking it out. Few others that I enjoy tremendously are: Nowhere Man, A Day in the Life, Across the Universe, Blackbird, Two of Us, Let It Be ...

Oops, this is apparently more than just a few. :) Oh, by the way, I read that Yellow Submarine has been turned into an ebook (free). Just in case you want to check out it's FB video, and the iBookstore link:

  2. @Claudine- I love those songs too! I was singing Blackbird earlier. :) There are so many amazing songs by the Beatles. I had no idea Yellow Submarine was an ebook. Thanks for letting me know. I will have to check it out.

  3. How do I pick just one? I can't! My favorites are Hey Jude, Carry That Weight, and You've Got to Hide Your Love Away. My dad listens to the Beatles all the time. Espcecially when we are driving. Oh Darling is also great. I will look up that ebook. Awesome post.

  7. Whenever I hear Imagine it always makes me tear up! It's funny that I stumbled upon this post today because this morning I was watching VHS1 and they were showing old video clips. One of them was Roy Orbison, I don't know what it is but his voice puts me into a trance every time I hear it. I literally had tears streaming down my face just listening to him. My favourite song of his is She's a Mystery to Me - just absolutely love that one! Great post as always!

  8. All I had to do was read the title, Octopus Garden, and I was transported back to another time. I could hear the lyrics and remember how much I enjoyed the melody. I wasn't in the states during most of that time, but since I drove Mini, everyone I met thought I was a Brit. I pretended to be one. :-)
    Loved this post.

  11. Wow! You guys mentioned some fantastic songs!

@Trey- That is so cool that the songs remind you of spending time with your dad. Me, too!

@Elisa and Vanessa- I love Hello, Goodbye, too! Lyrics are such a beautiful form of writing. I always enjoy trying to figure out what lyrics mean.

@Momto8 and Flex- Let it Be is great!!

@Patty- That is a sweet song! And fun, too!

@Megan- That is so cool that you were watching old clips before you saw this post!

@cleemckenzie- I really liked your story. I love that songs can take you to another place!

    Happy listening everyone!

  12. I love Imagine too! It is awesome! I have led a choir in this song before, and they loved it. But some "Christians" are bothered by this song because of the opening line--Imagine there's no heaven and no hell and no religion. They get offended by that song. I always have enjoyed it--John Lennon at his best!
