The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg is a heartwarming holiday story and my favorite book to kick off the holiday season. It is a story about a little boy that rides a magic train to the North Pole one Christmas Eve. Once he is there he is given the chance to pick the first gift of Christmas. After thinking for a minute he selects one of the bells from Santa’s sleigh. Santa declares this the first gift of Christmas and he rings the bell and gives it to the little boy. On the way home from the North Pole the little boy tries to show the bell to the other kids on the train, but it is missing. Will he ever find the bell? Read this fabulous Christmas tale to find out.
I recommend this book to people of all ages. The pictures in the book perfectly capture the spirit of Christmas. Every year I make a mug of hot chocolate and add lots of whip cream. Then, I sit down near my tree and read
The Polar Express and I always get chills when I get to the end. If I listen carefully I can hear the enchanting jingle of sleigh bells. I hope you do, too!
Has anyone else read
The Polar Express? Or seen the movie? I haven’t seen it yet, but I am hoping to watch it this year. What is your favorite holiday book?
My daughter and I have read the book and seen the movie. Both are very enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a magical story! I always tear up, during the movie, which is also incredible, just watched it the other night- and the book. AND, I do hear the sleigh bells, every Christmas! Great choice Lizzy- I know it's your fav! ~ F
ReplyDeleteMy Mom LOVES this story! We read it every year at Christmas time! It's definitely one of my favorites too!
ReplyDeleteOhh- I just watched this earlier today with my son. Magical.. "I Believe!!!"
ReplyDeleteI hear the jingle bells every Christmas!
This is one of Lucas' favorite Christmas movies.
My personal favorite is a copy of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas- a pop up book I purchased when my son was young. We still enjoy the popups each year as we read the story.
I LOVE this book, but I haven't seen the movie yet either. I've heard it's excellent though :0)
ReplyDeleteI have not read the book, but my daughter and I have watched the movie recently and she loved it. I think we will make a trip to the local library and borrow it before the holidays!
ReplyDeleteI watched the movie on TV and it was wonderful. I love Chris Van Allsburg's works!

I love this book and we went on a train ride last year and got to wear our pjs and listen to the story. So fun!
ReplyDeleteOh... I love the book and movie...when I was teaching 2nd grade I would have my kids bring in robes or Jammie's and all of our actiVities were related to that book...then we had cookies and hot chocolate...it was wondrous!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you are going to win Antiquitas Lost!!!
You are the only one entered!!!
I love the book. I just adore the illustrations. I'm not as wild about the movie. I love the beginning, most of the middle, hate the North Pole, but love the absolute end. The book, though, yes. LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to agree with Cat. The book was and still is wonderful. I think I'm old-fashioned when it comes to motion-capture characters in films. I'd much prefer the "real" animation or real actors.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit at the Write Game. Appreciated your comment.
I haven’t read this but loved the movie so really must get around to reading the book.
ReplyDeleteI have loads of favourite Christmas books but would have to put Charles Dickens’ A Christmas carol in the number one spot.
I love hearing everyone's thoughts on this book! For those of you that love it and have traditions reading it- I think that is awesome! For those of you that haven't read it yet- you need to read it this holiday season. The movie is good- but the book is sooooo much better.
ReplyDelete@Patty- Your 2nd grade class must have loved this celebration! How fun! I would like to participate!
ReplyDeleteI love this book! The pictures are magical. I haven't seen the movie yet!
ReplyDeleteThis book puts me in the mood for Christmas. I just went on the train ride on Friday. Hot chocolate and we all wore our pjs. SO much fun. I am watching the movie tomorrow.
