All Aboard!...

The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg is a heartwarming holiday story and my favorite book to kick off the holiday season. It is a story about a little boy that rides a magic train to the North Pole one Christmas Eve. Once he is there he is given the chance to pick the first gift of Christmas. After thinking for a minute he selects one of the bells from Santa’s sleigh. Santa declares this the first gift of Christmas and he rings the bell and gives it to the little boy. On the way home from the North Pole the little boy tries to show the bell to the other kids on the train, but it is missing. Will he ever find the bell? Read this fabulous Christmas tale to find out.

I recommend this book to people of all ages. The pictures in the book perfectly capture the spirit of Christmas. Every year I make a mug of hot chocolate and add lots of whip cream. Then, I sit down near my tree and read The Polar Express and I always get chills when I get to the end. If I listen carefully I can hear the enchanting jingle of sleigh bells. I hope you do, too!

Has anyone else read The Polar Express? Or seen the movie? I haven’t seen it yet, but I am hoping to watch it this year. What is your favorite holiday book?

Happy Reading!

  4. Ohh- I just watched this earlier today with my son. Magical.. "I Believe!!!"
I hear the jingle bells every Christmas!
This is one of Lucas' favorite Christmas movies.

My personal favorite is a copy of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas- a pop up book I purchased when my son was young. We still enjoy the popups each year as we read the story.

  10. I love the book. I just adore the illustrations. I'm not as wild about the movie. I love the beginning, most of the middle, hate the North Pole, but love the absolute end. The book, though, yes. LOVE it!

  11. I'm going to agree with Cat. The book was and still is wonderful. I think I'm old-fashioned when it comes to motion-capture characters in films. I'd much prefer the "real" animation or real actors.

  12. I haven’t read this but loved the movie so really must get around to reading the book.

I have loads of favourite Christmas books but would have to put Charles Dickens’ A Christmas carol in the number one spot.
