Beedle the Bard! A Review by Fairday!

So, we switched this week- and I wanted to talk about one of my absolute favorite, most treasured possessions. The Tales of Beedle the Bard, translated by Hermione Granger, Commentary by Albus Dumbledore, with an Introduction, Notes, and Illustrations by J.K. Rowling opened up a whole new world of fairy tales for me. They are wizarding folklore, crafted by the master of stories. My favorite one in this collection is The Fountain of Fair Fortune. In this tale, a mysterious fountain of fortune lies tucked away in an enchanted garden on top of a hill. Once a year, one unfortunate person is given the opportunity to fight their way to the top of the hill and bathe in its water, receiving fair fortune for evermore. On this day, three witches gather together and relay their tales of woe and sorrow to each other. Each harbors their own reasons for wanting to gain access to this fabled fountain and rid themselves of their problems. They decide to unite, should any of them fail at their task. Add in a knight called Sir Luckless and the tail begins to unfurl. It is a wonderful story with a truly surprising ending! I think anyone who loves folklore and mythology will really enjoy these stories!

Has anyone else read these stories? Any thoughts on them? ~ F

P.S. The book looks amazing too!!!

  1. I am so jealous of your limited edition copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Fairday! I have the regular copy, which is still really great. The stories are awesome! My favorite is The Wizard and the Hopping Pot- I think the illustrations are really cool too-

  2. I remember reading that book when it first came out. Don't recall the details of any particular story, but the impression I got was of classic fairy tales/fables ported to the Potter universe. So if you like Aesop's Fables & Harry Potter, it's pretty much a slam dunk.

  6. I listened to every Harry Potter book as they came out. Loved the series so much but not so much the movies. I recommend them to any age group. Such great magical thinking, keeps one in touch with their inner child. Those book bindings are beautiful.
