HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY, FAIRDAY!

Happy 1st book birthday to THE SECRET FILES OF FAIRDAY MORROW! It's been a year since the mystery of the Begonia House was revealed to the world, and now the paperback will be available January 3rd, 2017. The new cover design stays true to Fairday's snazzy style, sprinkling in a few added charms. Can you spot the differences from hardcover? ;)

Here's a bit about the story...
The Begonia House keeps its secrets. Everyone knows that. Everyone, that is, except for clever eleven-year old Fairday Morrow, whose family has just moved in. Being the Senior Investigator in the Detective Mystery Squad, more commonly known as the DMS, she’s ready to uncover the mysteries hidden within the strange manor. As the investigation gears up and the pieces of the puzzle fall into place, the three young sleuths enter into a world where anything is possible, and the danger is most definitely real. Can they piece together the puzzle before it's too late? Or will whatever's causing trouble find Fairday and her friends first?

Taking Off For A Spell...

We'll be taking time out this week for the Thanksgiving holiday. We're grateful to all of our readers and we wish you the happiest days with family and friends. See you all around the book block soon! ~ DMS

Here's an easy recipe if you're hungry for a good story... ; )

Looking for something fun to do?
Try a helping of Bookworm Stew!

The recipe calls for the following things: a bowl, some letters, and a bell that rings. A spoon and a sparkle are needed as well. When stirred up right, they'll cast their spell. *Whatever you use will work out fine, as long as you follow along each line.

In a pot, pour some water
Add in any flavor color
Stir three times, then once more
Go back again- this time four
Now, get your letters and toss them in
Set your thoughts on a whistling wind
Watch the brew spin round and round
Then ring a bell to add in sound
Now just wait, and you shall see
What the story is bound to be

     ✭✭✭

Did words appear? What do they say?
String them together, and it's the soup of the day!

*Stir again whenever you wish, but remember, you never know what's in this dish!

Perhaps it's Caleb's gardens where Bookworm Stew is brewed...

What's Happening on Museum Mile?

When sixth grader Edmund Xavier Lonnrot sees his father fend off a thief, he becomes a witness. Down at the police station he talks to the sketch artist who isn’t quite getting it right, so Edmund draws one quickly. He’s good at remembering details; after all he has a photographic memory and awesome art skills. The police take notice and are impressed. They are working on a series of art thefts, but haven’t been able to figure out where and when they will happen. They decide to try an unorthodox approach to solving the case- they ask Ed to help them. All he has to do is visit different museums looking for people who may be suspicious and the police will be watching him observe the museum patrons. His code name is Eddie Red, and he will get paid if he helps find the art thieves. This sounds like a good plan, but is it really safe? Will Eddie’s skills help the police? You'll have to find out for yourself!

Eddie Red Undercover: Mystery on Museum Mile was an interesting mystery. I can't imagine having a photographic memory, it would definitely be cool. Taking tests would be a breeze! It was fascinating to see the details Eddie could remember and how he used them in his sketches. Kids will also learn about the museums that are part of the Museum Mile in New York City. I’ve been to a lot of them, but now I'd like to to visit a few more. I'd recommend this book to kids in fourth grade and up who like mysteries and action. This is the first book in the series, so I'm guessing Eddie helps solve other cases, or maybe he starts working on his own!

Has anyone else read Eddie Red Undercover: Mystery on Museum Mile? Or have you read another book by Marcia Wells? We'd love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Reading!
