Artwork & video by Jess Haight

Below are a few pieces I've completed this past year; 11"x14" acrylic paintings on wood canvas board. Can you answer the riddles to guess which paintings they are? 😀

1. Colors swirl, float and pop. I drift nicely, then do drop. Giggles heard in my wake, I'm so easy for you to make. Suds it up, spin and chase. I'll put a smile on your face.

What am I?

The painting is the clue!

2. From afar I shall glow, soaring in a shining bow. A tail follows me behind. I'm a cosmic sort of find. I pass in fire, then burn out. A sign for those who have no doubt.

What am I?

The painting is the clue!

3. Secret person at a ball, could be anyone at all. Hidden face? Mysterious! Who could be so curious?

What am I referring to?

The picture is the clue!

Colors casting lines will whisk you off into ethereal realms of insight. Peep at those faces coming through. If you see them, they see you. 👀

Two of my paintings were included in the Magic Mural art wall in Hartford, CT. The event featured artwork from over 100 artists located around the world, the art displayed with lasers on the side of the Frontier building. It was a fantastic event with creative festivities, and an awesome merry-go-round. Stephanie and I had a blast, and it was cool to see the variety of colorful art presented. Rise Up Group and CT Murals organized this unique event, and I was honored to have my artwork be a part of the Magic Mural.

Below is a video of the full Magic Mural presentation

Marvelous Middle Grade Monday # MMGM Book Review: The Lost Library by Rebecca Stead and Wendy Mass

The Little Free Library that appears on the town green intrigues eleven-year-old, Evan. He takes two books from it on his first visit. Both books turn up surprises and mystery for him, especially after his father's odd reaction when Even showed him one of them. Curiosity has Evan and his best friend, Rafe, on the case. One thing they notice is that all the books in the Little Free Library are old library books, and they all have the same date stamped inside them. This gets them learning about the history of their town and events that happened in it years ago. They both learn more about their town and its occupants than they would have ever expected. Where did the library come from? Why is Evan's dad so weird about the book that was found? What is the significance of the date in the books? Will Evan and Rafe be able to get all the pieces to fall into place? You will have to read this suspenseful and magical tale to find out.

The Lost Library by Rebecca Stead and Wendy Mass is told from the viewpoints of Evan, Al (a ghostly librarian), and Mortimer (a cat). I really like the way the story had parts of the story coming from characters with different information. The characters lives were intertwined, and it was interesting to watch the mystery unfold. Evan and Rafe were great characters who acted realistically, and I liked the way they went about solving the cases together. It was really amazing how books helped to bring people together. Yay for Little Free Libraries! I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries, books, and ghosts. It was a page turner! I have read books by these authors before, and I look forward to reading more by both of them in the future.

Has anyone else read The Lost Library? Or have you read another book by Rebecca Stead or Wendy Mass? We would love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Reading!

Book Event Bonanza!

It's been a flurry of stories in December! We've had so much fun this holiday season enjoying the festivities and talking to readers about The Secret Files of Fairday Morrow & Fairday Morrow and the Talking Library. Here's a recap of our bookish adventures. Signed books make a magical gift! 📖✨

We wish all our readers a very merry holiday season!

Books Events

Vendor Fair, Wallingford, CT

Hopkins Vineyard, Warren, CT

Barnes & Noble, Waterbury, CT

Hopkins Vineyard is gorgeous! We had a great time talking to readers and giving them a taste of the mysterious wine paired with our books. Sachem's Picnic is a marvelous semi-sweet, ruby red wine with a charm that went perfectly with the Begonia House. The scene was festive and bright, and we enjoyed the live music by Dave King that kept everyone's spirits high. Thanks to Nutmeg Lit Fest for organizing this wonderful event!

If you'd like signed copies of the books, but couldn't make it to an event, signed copies are available at B&N in Waterbury or you can order signed books on our website: FAIRDAYSFILES.COM.
