Jonah has always known he was adopted, and
his parents have told him what a special day it was when he came into their
lives. But when Jonah starts receiving mysterious letters saying he's one
of the missing and someone is coming for him, he begins to worry. Is
someone looking for him because they gave him up for adoption? He isn’t sure
what the letters mean, but he knows he can’t tell his parents about them. When Johan
finds out his new neighbor, Chip, was also adopted and that he has been getting
the same letters things become a whole lot weirder. Jonah’s sister, Katherine,
is right on top of it and can't wait to help crack this mystery. A family trip
to the local FBI office leads to some unique events and more questions. A list
of witnesses and survivors is discovered and the kids
don't know what it could possibly mean. As they begin to investigate things
become very dangerous. One of the witnesses reveals that Chip and Jonah were found
thirteen years earlier on a plane, only the plane had no pilot and was only
full of babies. Now, people are looking for Jonah and Chip. Who is trying to
find them? Does this have anything to do
with the babies on the plane? Will anyone help them? You will be just as
anxious as Chip and Jonah to figure out what is going on!
I have read many books by Margaret Peterson
Haddix, so I was looking forward to starting The Missing series.
Found intrigued me and I was interested in the mystery. It was fun trying to figure out everything on my own and the story moved at a quick pace. I think this book will appeal to kids in
fourth grade and up who like books that involve science fiction and suspense.
The three main characters are different enough that they have their own unique
personalities, but close enough in age that kids will easily be able to relate
to them. This book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I know I'll have to get
the second book to see what happens. Luckily, I think most of the series is out
now so if there are any more cliffhangers I won't have to wait long before I
find the answers!
