Winter
has settled in and a snow/ice mixture has been covering the ground for a week. Our
local library has a fun display of winter books, which is perfect with the
weather outside. My little sister, Margo, was drawn to a series of books about
a penguin named Tacky. She loves penguins, and I knew we'd be reading the
books again and again. I have to say we had a blast reading by the
fire and all of our laughter warmed us up too.
Tacky
is not like other penguins. He doesn’t like to march in a straight line, dive
gracefully, or sing in a pretty voice. Instead, Tacky is a bit loud, sings off
key, and makes a big splash wherever he goes. The other penguins don’t quite
know what to make of his different ways and seem to find him a bit annoying.
But when hunters come to get some penguins what will happen to Tacky and
friends? Is there any way to stop them? Will the penguins be brave enough to stand up
to the danger? You won’t want to miss
this hilarious story!
Happy reading!

*REMINDER TO OUR READERS
Starting in 2019, we'll be posting two weeks out of the month. Tune in Monday (2/4) to catch Fairday's next riddle.
Looks like a fun series. Teaching that being different is okay is a win indeed.

All the best Jan
Jan- It really is. It's great for any kids in your life. :) ~F
DeleteIf I were a penguin I think I'd be just like Tacky. Doesn't (in my case make that can't) march in a straight line, dive gracefully and sings off key (in my case make that tone deaf, sings totally flat). Seriously though, this sounds like such a fun read. One I'm going to have to get for my penguin loving friend who is, oh, just a little bit older a reader.
ReplyDeleteTracy- Tacky is lots of fun. He is a character that stands out and doesn't notice because he's doing his own thing. :) Love it! Hope your friend enjoys Tacky.

ReplyDeleteRO- Glad to remind you to watch Happy Feet! :) Tacky is definitely a fun read. ~F
DeleteTacky the Penguin is adorable!
ReplyDeleteTheresa- I totally agree! :) ~F
DeleteI've seen this cover before or at least one of them. I recognize the name Tacky and that shirt. I'm glad you enjoyed Tacky the Penguin so much! I'll definitely have to get my hands on the book once I see it at the library. It kind of reminds me of this youtuber I watch sometimes who isn't afraid to show her uniqueness. I love that. It's hard to really show who you are to others because of societal expectations. Also, I didn't know it was a series. Hope you enjoy the next three books as well (:
ReplyDeleteAdriana- I think you will like the Tacky the Penguin picture book series. He is a great character and it's a fast read. I always appreciate people/penguins who can be true to themselves and not worry about social expectations. Not always easy to do! :) ~F
DeleteWell, I love Tacky. He's a great anti-hero and I'm sure kids who don't have it all together will be grateful he's around. Heck, I'm grateful for him. I can't march in a straight line even if I want to.
ReplyDeleteLee- I can totally relate to not being able to march in a straight line too. This is a book that will make kids giggle and laugh for sure. :) ~F
