To Be a Demigod

School has never been easy for Percy Jackson. He is always getting kicked out of one school or another because of his dyslexia and his temper. Unfortunately for him, it is about to get harder. During a class field trip Percy’s pre-algebra teacher turns into a monster and tries to kill him! After that, his mom and his best friend, Grover, decide it is time for him to know the truth. They rush to get Percy to Camp Half Blood, a camp for demigods, where he can learn the necessary skills to survive. Percy’s entry to the camp is action packed; from finding out his best friend is actually a satyr, to an attack from a mythological monster. Then he learns he is the prime suspect in Zeus’s missing lightning bolt! The Gods are MAD! Will Percy ever find out who really took the bolt? Will he be able to fend off creatures that are out to destroy him? Read this masterful book to find out!

I recommend Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief: Book 1 to anyone between the ages of 10 and up. Mythology can be confusing for some people and this story really helps to bring the gods and goddesses to life. Percy Jackson is a character that kids of all ages can relate to and his friends, Grover and Annabelle, are funny and clever. I would love to be friends with him and see his magic pen in action! I learned so much about mythology and enjoyed the first book in this series. The author uses such wonderful descriptions that I feel that I know the characters and places described in the book. I can’t wait to read the rest (I already started the second book, Sea of Monsters).

Has anyone else read the Percy Jackson series? Or another book by Rick Riordan? What did you think?

Happy Reading!

  2. I bet you would love the books! I saw the movie and it was soooo different from the 1st book and it left out a lot of the storyline and quite a few characters. The movie really changed a lot of the story! I liked the movie- but at first I didn't because I thought some of the changes were weird.
