Will the Pendant Get Back into the Right Hands?

Charlotte, the truth teller, has been back from the other realm for so long that her time there feels like a dream. Unfortunately, the dark and evil druid, Siren, is on the move making it dangerous for Charlotte to ever return. When her old friend, Elderfield, is given a pendant that will allow him to travel between realms he realizes that he must seek out Charlotte and warn her never to come back to his land. Elderfield’s luck runs out when he loses the key to the gateway and it is found by Siren who wants to destroy the truth teller so he can carry out his plan without obstacles. Siren comes to Charlotte’s world and believes that he gets rid of her, so he goes home and begins to put his plan in motion. Charlotte has no choice but to return with Elderfield to try to make things right. But war has already begun and Siren will stop at nothing until he destroys those who oppose him. Will Charlotte be able to help stop the war? Is it possible for her to find the power to defeat Siren and his army of beasts? Will she be able to get back to her world or has she seen her family for the last time? Read this sequel to find out more about this intense fantasy world and learn what happens when evil is unleashed and hope is running out!

Wrath of Siren by Kurt Chambers begins right where Truth Teller left off. Charlotte continues to be a strong and inquisitive character who's braver than she knows. She seemed stronger in this book, and I liked that she resigned herself to what the other world entailed. Elderfield is such a good friend, and I was happy they were reunited, even if it was under dangerous circumstances. This series is perfect for kids who are interested in the Lord of the Rings or other high fantasy stories. I would recommend this book for kids in fourth grade and up. This was an action-packed adventure, and with a war going on there were some scenes with violence. These were handled with enough details that you could picture what was happening, but they weren't gruesome or overly descriptive. Readers will be on the edge of their seats turning the pages. The storyline wraps up, but I'm hoping for more books in the series, because I hate to leave characters I've grown attached to!

Has anyone else read Wrath of Siren? Have you read another book by Kurt Chambers? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Reading!

Lizzy's Review: A Plane Full of Babies?

Jonah has always known he was adopted, and his parents have told him what a special day it was when he came into their lives. But when Jonah starts receiving mysterious letters saying he's one of the missing and someone is coming for him, he begins to worry. Is someone looking for him because they gave him up for adoption? He isn’t sure what the letters mean, but he knows he can’t tell his parents about them. When Johan finds out his new neighbor, Chip, was also adopted and that he has been getting the same letters things become a whole lot weirder. Jonah’s sister, Katherine, is right on top of it and can't wait to help crack this mystery. A family trip to the local FBI office leads to some unique events and more questions. A list of witnesses and survivors is discovered and the kids don't know what it could possibly mean. As they begin to investigate things become very dangerous. One of the witnesses reveals that Chip and Jonah were found thirteen years earlier on a plane, only the plane had no pilot and was only full of babies. Now, people are looking for Jonah and Chip. Who is trying to find them? Does this have anything to do with the babies on the plane? Will anyone help them? You will be just as anxious as Chip and Jonah to figure out what is going on!

I have read many books by Margaret Peterson Haddix, so I was looking forward to starting The Missing series. Found intrigued me and I was interested in the mystery. It was fun trying to figure out everything on my own and the story moved at a quick pace. I think this book will appeal to kids in fourth grade and up who like books that involve science fiction and suspense. The three main characters are different enough that they have their own unique personalities, but close enough in age that kids will easily be able to relate to them. This book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I know I'll have to get the second book to see what happens. Luckily, I think most of the series is out now so if there are any more cliffhangers I won't have to wait long before I find the answers!

Has anyone else read Found? Or have you read another book by Margaret Peterson Haddix? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Happy Reading!

Answer to Monday's Riddle: Babies All Around...

Excellent guessing, Riddlers! Friday, Lizzy's review will bring home the baby, so stay tuned! See you all around the book block. ; ) ~ F

The starting line in this place, here you'll find another face. An unknown you come to being, open eyes forever seeing. At this stage, you are new, there is nothing much to do. Eat, sleep, watch the scene, be a part of the living dream. Voices coo, vibrations sound, colors swim through sky and ground. Reflecting on this circle spin, here is where you've once been. Words had yet to take on meaning, the goal this time was finish weaning.

What are you? Answer: A baby!

Extra! Extra! The Begonia House in headlines!
Secrets revealed by the Ridgefield Press

Jessica Haight, left, with writing partner Stephanie Robinson

A supposedly haunted house owned by one of Ridgefield’s former police chiefs, John Haight, has become the basis for a middle school-level juvenile novel published by Random House.

“The Secret Files of Fairday Morrow,” about a detective girl who moves to the big, old spooky house with lots of local lore surrounding it, is currently available.

Jessica Haight, 42, of New Fairfield, who by day is the central registrar for the Enchanted Garden school of the arts for children in Ridgefield, co-authored the book with writing partner Stephanie Robinson, 41, of Naugatuck, using Google Documents Share based on her experiences as a child in her grandfather’s creaky old home...

In other news, Fairday's Drawing Contest entry date has been extended to June 17th. Set your imagination free!
