Can the Fairy Tale Detectives Crack the Case?

The Fairy Tale Detectives begins with two sisters, Sabrina and Daphne, moving in with their long, lost grandmother, Relda Grimm. Their grandmother has always been a bit of a mystery to them and they aren’t moving in with her under the best of terms. Their parents are missing and now Sabrina and Daphne are in upstate New York eating green meatballs in a strange home. When the girls find out they are the descendants of the Brothers Grimm everything is seen in a new light. The famous book of fairy tales written by the brothers is actually a collection of case files! Apparently, their new town is filled with Everafters, which is what magical folks like to go by. Granny Relda’s house is filled with unique books and odd items that could keep the girls busy for hours. But when their grandmother goes missing it is up to the sisters to try to find her and save their new town from a giant that was set loose. Unfortunately, Sabrina and Daphne don’t know who to trust and they must rely on their instincts and hope for the best. Do you know enough about fairy tales to try to predict which Everafter has started all this trouble? Can the girls save the day? Wait until you find out!

I recommend The Fairy Tale Detectives: The Sisters Grimm: Book 1 by Michael Buckley to kids between 3rd and 6th grade. If you like fairy tales and trying to figure out mysteries then this is a story you will certainly enjoy. Sabrina and Daphne have opposite personalities, which gives the reader the chance to relate to at least one of them, if not both. I like that the girls get to test themselves and try to figure out their new surroundings and the Everafters that they encounter. The story intertwines many elements of fairy tales, so it was such fun to try to find all the references to other stories. I love the humor that the author uses to tell the tale and I am curious to read the next book in what is sure to be a magical series! Reading these fractured fairy tales is sure to keep you turning the pages, wanting more!

Has anyone else read The Fairy Tale Detectives: The Sisters Grimm: Book 1? Or have you read another book by Michael Buckley?

Happy reading!~L
