The DMS Wants to Know!
Monday's Riddle lured us to shore, and Lizzy's review of Aquamarine by Alice Hoffman introduced us to a stubborn mermaid. Friday, we were excited for the chance to chat with Marsha Hayles, and find out a little more about her unique story Breathing Room. Stop by the post for your chance to win a signed hardcover edition of this book! Today, we want to hear from you!
The DMS wants to know:
What do you find enchanting about mermaids? Would you choose to be one if you you were given the opportunity?

You know, I don't know why I like mermaids. There's just something about them. I have a Pinterest mermaid board too. Would I be a mermaid? Never - the water's cold!
ReplyDeleteDonna- I love your response about the water! I have always found mermaids to be magical and intriguing. :) ~L
DeleteI wouldn't want to be one, but I've loved them since seeing the movie Splash.
ReplyDeleteMedeia- Splash made me love them too! Madison was a great character! :) ~L
DeleteI wouldn't choose to be a mermaid. I had fun writing a story about evil sirens once though -- they're almost mermaids. ;)
ReplyDeleteLexa- They definitely seem to be in the same family. :) ~L
DeleteWhile Ariel was cute..I am just not a fan of mere people.
ReplyDeleteKimba- Ariel was definitely a cute mermaid. :) ~L
DeleteI like the idea of being a mermaid, but on the other hand, I can swim AND walk so I think I will stay as I am.
ReplyDeleteBarbara- Great points! :) ~L
DeleteSeeing as I'm totally and completely freaked out by the ocean (there are just WAY too many things in there that shouldn't be there and hello! fish with teeth) I'm going with nope I'm good not being a mermaid. lol Finding treasures would be fun though. But other than that. Nope. I'd be one seriously neurotic mermaid. ;)
ReplyDeleteHerding Cats and Burning Soup- You made me laugh out loud with your response. Being freaked out about the living things in the ocean would definitely make life hard for a mermaid. :) ~L
DeleteI just adore mermaids. They are pretty. And I love their tail SO MUCH. So pretty. Sigh. I would love to be a mermaid. Probably. Or not. I'm not sure. But I just think they look awesome :)
ReplyDeleteCarina- I think mermaids are pretty too! It might be fun to be one for a little while. Imagine the secrets of the ocean you could discover! :) ~L
DeleteGiven that I hate having my face splashed in the swimming pool as much as I love mermaids I don't think I'd make a very good one.
ReplyDeleteTracy- It would be tough to be a mermaid if your face couldn't get wet! Good point! :) ~L
DeleteI'm a scuba diver. While I'm mildly entertained by the idea of mermaids, there's no way I'd EVER want to live under the water, and I find the idea of mermaid society beneath the waves pretty much snore worthy in most instances. The stories I've read suffer a need for more world building. Maybe I just haven't read widely enough, eh?
ReplyDeleteCrystal- How fun to be a scuba diver! It sounds like you don't need to be a mermaid to get to live under the water for a little while. :) I haven't read any other mermaid books- but I will let you know if I find one I think you might like. ~L
DeleteI think mermaids are pretty, but I hate getting my face wet and swallowing water so I would make a terrible mermaid.
ReplyDeleteBeverly- Based on your comment- I agree it might not be the thing for you. :) ~L
