Answer to Monday's Riddle: Twisting Tales to Tell...

"If Jack were here, Hazel would tell him about the chipmunk counselor, and he would draw a cartoon of the chipmunk with big glasses behind a desk and the chipmunk would say, "I'm so sorry Hazel, but you're nuts."  (Excerpt taken from Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu

Excellent guessing Riddlers- this one was tricky, with scattered clues throughout the pages of this blog. This week, we are so excited to bring you the stories of Anne Ursu! Recently, we reviewed Breadcrumbs and The Real Boy (just released!). These books are treasures. Anne's writing will have you hooked on page one! Stick with us as we whisk you off into a world of magic, with a special art reveal for The Real Boy on Friday! See you all around the book block ; ) ~ F

I am a woman with stories to tell. I craft them in time from words in my well. It's filled with magic, and it's deeper than most. I left breadcrumbs behind to help a friend with his host. Letters and pictures, and tales of old- I twist and knead into books that are gold. Follow me if you want to see what's so real about a boy and a tree. You've known me before, you've read about me here. My ideas have brought you sorrow and cheer. I've given you wizards, snow queens, and nuts. I've written in slivers, snowballs, and cuts. What do you think? Who might I be? It's all right here for you to see. Look for a phrase that mirrors this verse: the Beast is attractive under the weight of a curse.

Clue: (Taken from our author interview with Anne)
If you could befriend a character from a fairy tale, who would you befriend? Why?

The Beast, from Beauty and the Beast. Men suffering under the weight of a terrible curse are highly attractive.

Who am I? Answer: Children's Author: Anne Ursu

  8. I don't think you've ever answered a riddle with an author. This should be good. I really liked Breadcrumbs even if the end wasn't what I expected. The Real Boy looks amazing! It looks like she had the same illustrator that time around too.
Umm... I don't know about the Beast. Men under curses can be attractive but not if I can't distinguish the man from a hairy beast! Still my favorite childhood movie <3
