Margo's Musings

Margo decided she wanted to have a little fun today with a classic.
Here's a few of her favorite rhymes. Enjoy! Happy Friday : )

BOBBY SHAFTOE

Bobby Shaftoe's gone to sea,
With silver buckles on his knee:
He'll come back and marry me,
    Pretty Bobby Shaftoe!
Bobby Shaftoe's fat and fair,
Combing down his yellow hair;
He's my love for evermore,
    Pretty Bobby Shaftoe.

COME OUT TO PLAY

Girls and boys, come out to play,
The moon doth shine as bright as day;
Leave your supper, and leave your sleep,
And come with your playfellows into the street.
Come with a whoop, come with a call,
Come with a good will or not at all.
Up the ladder and down the wall,
A half-penny roll will serve us all.
You find milk, and I'll find flour,
And we'll have a pudding in half an hour.

TO MARKET

To market, to market, to buy a fat pig,
Home again, home again, jiggety jig.
To market, to market, to buy a fat hog,
Home again, home again, jiggety jog.
To market, to market, to buy a plum bun,
Home again, home again, market is done.

  2. Not too many people looking for "fat and fair" on dating websites these days. Funny how much our language changes.

  4. Is it just me or do those seem a little bit ominous? Especially the "Come Out and Play" one. Who's telling the kids to sneak out of their houses and romp around the street making mischief at night? Hmm...
