This week's top of the heap: Halloween Thrills & Chills ♨
Fairday: Last year, Halloween was canceled in my town. Seriously. Canceled. Talk about utter devastation! We were out of power for six days; Halloween included! Now that it's here again, I'm going to enjoy every last minute of this fabulous season. The holiday has such an ancient and interesting past, and everyone can relate to the amazing creativity that bubbles up this time of year. Even last Halloween, though there was no trick or treating and all the parties were canceled, I had a blast with my family! We lit a bunch of candles and swapped scary stories, huddling up to keep warm. It was great just being together, and we ended up having a pretty magical night even without the power on- spookier than ever, actually. One tradition that always gets me excited is carving my Jack O' Lantern. I absolutely love this activity. It's so much fun to give the pumpkin a personality and bring it to life. I light it up every night and make sure that it's positioned properly for maximum scare factor. I have a special carving knife that I like to use, and I stick with it every year- no matter how many fancy tools my dad tries to convince me will cut better. It's like my thing with pencils- they have to be regular #2- anything more "exclusive" and I can't make them work right : ) Anyway, here's to a frightfully wicked Halloween season, and a few good, healthy scares! ~ F
Wishing all of you a harrowing Halloween season that brings lots of sweet treats and not too many tricks ; ) ~ L & F
Canceled?! How horrifying. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWatching The Great Pumpkin is my favorite Halloween tradition! (We've added Monster House to the list in recent years...)
Hi E.J., It was horrifying! I didn't even know it was possible- you can cancel the events, but, if when the Halloween spirit possess you, no one can take it away! I love The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and I catch it every year on TV. Thanks so much for stopping by to share your thoughts with us : ) ~ F
DeleteI think I would cry if Halloween was cancelled! Take away Christmas but leave me my Halloween!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Ali, There were lots of tears all over the place last year, that's for sure! Halloween rocks! Great to hear from you : ) ~ F
Delete*GASP!* That's horrible. I don't go trick or treating anymore so it's not really a big deal if Halloween is canceled for me. I have never been able to catch a Charlie Brown movie! It's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteHi Adriana, WHAT?!? You have got to watch It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown this year! I insist- it's one of the best, funniest, Halloween shows- and Snoopy just takes the cake as the Red Baron- sincerely ; ) ~ F
DeleteI have to admit that when I taught 2nd grade...I loved and hated Halloween...the excitement of the parade and party was almost overwhelming!
ReplyDeleteAnd fun!
Hi Patty, Second-graders have a lot of energy- I can imagine it would be hard to control that many little characters running around, especially all hopped up on sweets! Lovely to hear from you! Thanks for stopping by : ) ~ F
DeleteHalloween can be a lot of fun ... as long as I don't have to do costumes! Hate to admit it, but I detest making costumes :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jemi, Do you like to wear them though? That's the important part! Thanks so much for stopping by to share your thoughts with us : ) ~ F
DeleteCancelling Halloween?!? This year you'll have to have twice as much fun and candy. I used to do Halloween, but I haven't in years and years.
ReplyDeleteHi Bish, You bet! It's all in the works : ) Always a pleasure to hear from you! ~ F
DeletePoor Charlie Brown! lol So much fun to plan on treats, not just for trick or treaters but for my family too.
ReplyDeleteDonna- My heart always goes out to Charlie Brown. Treats are awesome! ~L
