The DMS Wants to Know!

Monday's Riddle clued you in on our theme of painters and illustrators this week. Wednesday, we were excited that Brocket the Rocket dropped by and told us all about one of his favorite summer reads, Nate Rocks the World by Karen Pokras Toz. On Top of the Heap, we shared with you two of our top picks for illustrators. And, Friday, we were honored to host an interview with the brilliant artist, Dave SanAngelo. Today, we want to hear from you!

    Salvador Dali and MC Escher. For similar reasons. I love that I can look at their work time and time again and find something new each time.

      Ali- I love Salvador Dali's work and can look at it for hours. MC Escher's work is also fascinating. It is so fun to be able to discover new things every time you look at a piece of art! ~F

    Hmm. I loved the illustrations that Axel Scheffler did in the 2009 edition of T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats

    Gosh - so hard to choose. I love the way Maxfield Parrish depicts light. Alan Lee's illustrations of Tolkien amaze me as well.

    I think it's wonderful that you are talking about artists and illustrators, and I am enjoying the theme this week. My favorite artist is Brian Froud. His illustrations of fairies are simply amazing.

    I have to confess that one of my very favorite book illustrators is still E.H. Shepard with his Winnie the Pooh sketches... :0)

    Hi Heidi, The Serendipity books were amazing. The pictures have a warm, fuzzy quality to them. Thanks for reminding me about those! I loved reading them and always enjoy looking at the illustrations. Great to hear from you! ~ F

    My current favourite artist/illustrator is Shaun Tan. He is wise and funny and deep and soooooooo imaginative. I want to live in his world. I want to live in his brain. His graphic novel The Arrival is the most brilliant depiction of the immigrant experience--using no words whatsoever. The picture book The Red Tree is so beautiful and so profound.

    I think I'm going to go write a blog post about him!

      Kim- I think Shaun Tan has a wonderful style and I love the colors that he uses in his work. The Arrival sounds fascinating. If you end up writing a blog post about him- I can't wait to read it! Thanks for stopping by! ~F

    Oh gosh, there are so many. Margaret W Tarrant and Cicely Mary Barker for their fairies. Arthur Rackham for his scary trees, E. H. Shepard for Pooh, Eileen Soper for her illustrations in the Famous Five books, Graham Oakley because I love his Church mice, Mabel Lucie Attwell for the Boo Boos (little elves). I had better stop now, but I could go on all day!
