The DMS Wants to Know!

This week the theme has been scary books and movies. Lizzy was inspired by Closed for the Season by Mary Downing Hahn, a mysterious tale about an unsolved murder that two thirteen year olds decide to investigate. We shared with you our favorite scary movie on the Top of the Heap. We both loved the fact that Watcher in the Woods scared us both out of our pants.  Even the trailer gives me goose bumps!  It is always so much fun to read a book or watch a movie that gives you a little fright and keeps you guessing! Today, we want to hear what you guys have to say!  There are so many tantalizing tales to choose from...

The DMS wants to know: What is a spooky book or movie that makes your knees knock and your heart race?

We told you ours, now let's hear yours!

Here is a little music from Tim Burton's Corpse Bride to get you in the mood:

  1. Hmm I would have to say the spooky books that were a wee bit spooky for me were Primeval (Event Group Adventure #5) by David L. Golemon and The Shadowkiller by Matthew Scott Hansen simply because they have bigfoot in it and they're written really well :)

  2. All time favorite scary movie: Arachnophobia!

Scariest book? Hmm... Probably Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan's THE STRAIN. Creepy good stuff. :0)

    1. I have not seen Arachnophobia- but I have heard it is scary. Especially for people who don't like spiders. :) The books you mentioned sound super creepy! Great!

  4. There are lots of scary movies out there. I was scared by a movie called The Vanishing because I am afraid of tight spaces. It makes me stressed out to think about it. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman was a creepy book.

  5. Awesome Youtube clip- I love that movie. I thought Coraline was scary- both the movie and the book. Something about those button eyes. I also thought the book Skeleton Man by Brushac was creepy- it made me nervous to go to bed after I was done reading it! It is fun to be scared for a little bit.

  9. Oh dear... for some reason one that really stuck to me was The Sixth Sense. When the kid starts talking about that creepy feeling you get when the hairs on the back of your neck stand for no reason, it's because "they're there"... because I get that all the time!!! *cries*

  10. I don't know if any books have scared me as much as movies though Bradbury's 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' gave me chills at few points. As for movies, the scariest thriller I've watched in these years is a Korean film 'The Chaser.' And many, many years ago, I screamed while watching 'The Evil Dead.' Didn't manage to finish watching that last one ... Great post, ladies! Certainly brought back frightful memories. :)

  11. Books? R.L. Stine's Goosebumps: "Welcome to Dead House" and "Be Careful What You Wish For...". Movies? "I Am Legend" and one episode of "Supernatural," probably--but, being 10, a lot more things scare me than most of you... :)

  12. I cannot read or watch scary movies! So I have no answer to this. When I was young, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White used to really scare me, and I decided I had to avoid them. lol Today, Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorite movies.

My favourite Horror movie is the Kubrick adaptation of The Shining. It's the reason I can't enter the bathroom when I'm scared!

Stephen King just really does it for me. After I read Needful Things, I didn't go shopping for a month! And after I read Christine, I was so terrified a car was going to crash through my family's living room window and kill me . . . despite the fact that I live in an apartment unit over twenty floors off the street! It must be the same fear people had after seeing Jaws and not wanting to get into swimming pools. LOL!

    1. JMJ- The original Shining is scary- I haven't seen the new one. I can understand your fears! After I watched Jaws as a child I would swim in my pool and start to panic that a shark was going to get in- even though I knew it was physically impossible! :) Up until I read your comment I thought I was just crazy- but I am glad to know there were other people who felt that way in their pools. ~Stephanie
