It is said that a ghost inhabits the house. He is the ghost of a man [sic] who lived in the house during the Revolutionary War when Rochambeau and his men were encamped in Newtown. After refusing to give some of the soldiers food (the owner was a British sympathizer) some of the men made the elderly owner run up and down Main Street. He died that night and has been haunting the house ever since.
The Hillbrow House is a beautiful home that holds its secrets, and you can experience it yourself at the Halloween walk down main street in Newtown. The decorations are fantastic!

The
house has two very unusual features; the rare side-by-side beehive

the second level leading to the front and back halls and..
then continues
to the third floor...

Happy Halloween to all!
Wow, quite the house. Haunted or not
ReplyDeleteI remember taking this tour a few year's ago. It is such a beautiful house, it's hard to believe it's haunted. But isn't Newtown just lovely in the fall?
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool house! Would be fun to see it in person. There's a house in Old Town San Diego, The Whaley House, that was supposed to be haunted. We went there quite a lot in my school days since it had a lot of history associated with it. Never saw or felt anything, but others had over the years.
ReplyDeletebetty
I loved all the pictures! I am so glad you included them with all the descriptions as well, and it looks like a pretty cool house. I think haunted houses are creepily wonderful ^^
ReplyDeleteVery cool and would love to visit this house even for its architecture and murals that I see on the one staircase. I love wild staircases
ReplyDeleteWhat a magniicent house.
ReplyDeleteSigh on the creation of yet another ghost through cruelty.
Gorgeous!! And a little creepy! The staircase looks fantastic :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely an interesting house--haunted or not.
ReplyDeleteI love houses like this. I wouldn't mind living in one. That staircase! That chair! Would love to visit there. The owners have preserved that beautiful house. Terrific!
ReplyDeleteOld houses and ghosts fascinate me. What a beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteI've seen the peculiar little cramped staircases they built in that time period in Mass and on Long Island. They can leave you very claustrophobic. The owners really have kept the place looking good. Thanks for the Halloween spooky house! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful house. Do you know Joe Citro's haunted New England books? I expect you'd enjoy them.
ReplyDeleteDe nada! ;)
ReplyDeleteAdorei a casa. Gosto de Halloween, mesmo não sendo uma data muito comemorada aqui no Brasil...
Ótimo sábado!
Beijo! ^^
Haunted or not there is something incredibly spooky about this house, the doll in the chair enough to give anyone nightmares.
ReplyDeleteI like reading about haunted houses. I like the staircase.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful house and interesting story! Cool staircases, too!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others. The house is beautiful but the haunted part...hmm. Have to see to believe. Happy Halloween everyone!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful house with a haunting history! Even if the old man was a British sympathizer that was terrible how they treated him and hastened his death. No wonder he haunts the place!
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween to you too. My grandma used to have one of those white wicker chairs in her house when I was little. It would creak every time I sat in it. Loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween, guys! At first I thought a pink room didn't seem that scary, but upon the second look, with the doll in the wicker chair, and that shade of pink, I felt a bit queasy.
ReplyDeleteOoh spooky. So many haunted places in New England. The Ghost Hunters guys could have pretty much stayed in that area and never run out of episodes, but I guess they were being pressured to venture elsewhere. I'd love to visit that house!
ReplyDeleteChilling! I have a love/hate relationship with spooky places.
ReplyDeleteThere are some pretty scary homes all over... there are a couple here in Nova Scotia that are quite ledgendary here. I've been lucky not to have to deal with this. Interesting stories. .. xox ♡
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful old house, especially that staircase.
ReplyDeleteThey should have been kinder to the elderly gentleman:(
Gosh I'd love to visit, but not sure what'd I do if I ran into the ghost.
ReplyDeleteNice spooky house )
ReplyDeleteLoved getting a glimpse into this house! It's lovely to see that history preserved. I hope it's not really haunted though. :D
