Is There Really a Crystal Lion?

Eric and the rest of the Deliverers are back together on a new adventure. This time the Hallway of Worlds has sent Eric, Kate, Hallo, and Stig to a place where the people and beings are involved in a civil war with each other. A group of people called the Vynistri have been using a device, the Machine, to alter the DNA of the Chazum. The Vynistri is being ruled by the evil Chancellor Trelango. His brother, Selango, who claims to be the Crystal Lion spoken about in legends, is rallying the Chazum and their supporters. Two brothers fighting on opposite sides! It's up to the Deliverers to make sure that the Machine is destroyed and that peace is restored in the land. They team up with others who seem to have the same goal in mind. Cy, Chunk, Ari, and Markent show the Deliverers the tunnels under the city that they can use to carry out their plan. Along the way they are separated from Stig, who they fear is dead, and find themselves strapped to the Machine as possible science experiments. Is Stig gone? Will the Deliverers be able to stop the war and facilitate peace? Is there really a Crystal Lion? Who should they trust in this strange new land? What experiments does Trelango have planned for them? You will have to read this action-packed book to find out how it all turns out!

I recently finished The Deliverers: Order of the Crystal Lion by Gregory Slomba and it was fantastic! I think the cover is perfect, illustrator Daniel Vogel did a fabulous job! It is so exciting to read the second book in a series and like it even more than the first (which is saying a lot because I loved the The Deliverers: Sharky and the Jewel). It was wonderful to catch up with old friends from the first book. I liked getting to see the way Eric, Kate, Stig, and Hallo had grown from their first adventure and how they had changed because of their experiences. I liked seeing Eric become more confident. There were many new characters who kept me entertained and on the edge of my seat.  There are weapons called immobilizers that I really loved! What a creative tool for the Deliverers and friends to use to combat evil! The tunnels were filled with surprises, and I could easily picture the route being taken. I know I wouldn’t want to be down in the tunnels based on the smell alone! Right from the first chapter I was immersed in the story, hoping that the Deliverers would succeed in their mission. I think this would be a fun fantasy adventure for anyone in fourth grade and up. Although I had read the first book in the series, I think someone could easily pick this one up and enjoy the story without reading the first book, because there is enough background on the Deliverers and a whole new cast of characters to get to know. I am looking forward to the next book in the series, and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
