The DMS Wants to Know!

Monday's Riddle walked us into a dreamy week. Lizzy lifted the hazy veil and showed us a different world with her review of the new middle grade book Juniper Berry by M.P. Kozlowsky. We told you about a couple of our interior landscapes on Top of the Heap. And Friday, we were lucky enough to host Grace Lin, author of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. It was great to hear more about the story behind her story, and interesting to learn about her latest novel, Starry River of the Sky. We have something spooky and fun planned for Sunday, so be sure to check back!

To bring a little nightmare into this seasonal fun, we want to know about you and your dreams- what would you be willing to trade to have them come true? Just like the classic story of Faust, whose dissatisfaction with life drove him to make a deal with the devil so that he could have his wildest dreams come true- today, we want to hear from you!

The DMS wants to know: What is your dream? What would you be willing to give up to see it come true?

We'll tell you ours, if you tell us yours!

  1. Nothing so big I'd sign a contract like Faust did!
Alice Cooper used to joke that he signed a contract like that. They even played it up when he made an appearance on The Muppet Show.

    1. Hi Alex, I remember that! Isn't it funny to picture Alice Cooper with Ms. Piggy and Kermit! I truly loved that show... thanks for reminding me- lol!~ Jess

  2. Writing's been my lifelong dream. I wouldn't trade my soul, though I have given up watching TV most nights, and spend weekends creating new worlds rather than living in the current one. :)
Love love love that title - Starry River of the Sky.

    1. Hi Cate, Sometimes it's hard to sit down and decide you want to create a new world, or character- but once the spark is there- it's one of the best things to think about- way better than TV- so, good choice on something to give up! Great to hear from you : ) ~ F

  3. Yeah, not big on the whole Faust-contract-signing thing lol

My dream, to live long enough to see extraterrestrial intelligent life confirmed. What I would give up/swap to realize said dream .... diet Mtn. Dew (huge addiction here. As soon as *they* land on the White House lawn I'll switch to ginger ale, I promise ~ ;D

    1. Hi MAD, No? I thought you would be into that : ) Excellent dream to have- that would be an amazing turn of events!

LOL! So funny, one of my close friends has a Diet Mt. Dew addiction- weird! I have some issues with chap stick myself- that would be a really hard thing to give up, not to mention that I would have to walk around with a big, orange ring of chapped skin around my lips, like when I was a kid. Whoever it was that introduced me to chap stick, really saved my skin! ~ F

  4. I'm doing my best to live my dream. I give up sleep, free time, and relaxation, but it's worth it. I'm a full-time writer. :)

  5. I would like some of my dreams to come true, but I’m not willing to trade anything for them. I would be too afraid of what the consequences might be. I think you just have to work as hard as you can, be as kind as you can and maybe some dreams will come true.

    1. Hi Barbara, We agree- and, anything is possible if you are willing to put in the effort. Our motto- there's a 1% chance of anything happening, so fear not the unexpected! ~ F

    2. I really like Barbara's 'work as hard as you can, be as kind as you can ...' I am living some of my dreams and will hopefully go on to fulfilling the rest, one wisp at a time. I can't give up anything that matters, I'm merely taking more time to write and read, and though I'm still not earning as much as I used to, oh well ... I suppose that's reasonable, given the delight I have instead.

  6. I think when I was younger I would have been a lot more rash about what I would give up to make a dream come true. Now I'm older I'm much more cautious. Many dreams I thought impossible have come true for me - as time passes those that haven't I'll continue to enjoy as a means of escapism and probably cherish them all the more because they are unattainable.

  7. With Dorian Gray in mind I'm with Barbara in that I'd not be willing to trade anything to make my dream come true as I believe the price I'd have to pay might ultimately prove too costly and became a nightmare.

  8. Never would be willing to sign a contract with the devil for anything but my longest fantasy has been to own a Kentucky Derby contender. That idea came to me on the back of a real fast quarter horse when I was 17 and never left.;D
