Top of the Heap!

Isn't it funny how much you love to hate the villain in a great story? We had so much fun chatting about our favorite, infamous villains, and I have been giving this topic a lot of thought since Lizzy wrote Monday's Riddle. I followed along with Hazel on her quest to find Jack and face the White Witch of Narnia in the book Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu. And, though I love the Snow Queen's icy chill, I've made up my mind and so has Lizzy. Get ready, because today we are shouting out to the bad guys and girls!

This week's top of the heap: Great story villains!

Sharon McLeod Prints and Cards
Fairday: The Mistress of Magic and Mysticism, Queen Mab, sometimes known as Titania, queen of Faerie, sister to the Lady of the Lake, is cloaked in mystery and my pick for a super villain. She rules with a powerful magic and has the ability to manipulate nature. She is both loving and cruel; beautiful and horrible. And, though she may help you to stand, there is poison in her hand. So, here's to Queen Mab and her timeless efforts to keep the magic alive! ~ F

Oberon states in the play:

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull'd in these flowers with dances and delight;
And there the snake throws her enamell'd skin,
Weed wide enough to wrap a fairy in

Lizzy: Voldemort
There are so many villains who do their job well. Still, when I think of the worst of the worst- I think of Voldemort. His snake- like appearance, coupled with the evil he posses definitely makes him one scary character. Plus, you never know where he will show up or what he is capable of because he seems to have no guilt. Throughout each of the Harry Potter books Voldemort plays a role, antagonizing and trying to outwit Harry. He is so dangerous that people are afraid to speak his name! The actor who played him, Ralph Fiennes, really channeled the character, but the Voldemort in my mind is even scarier! I would hate to meet him in Hogsmeade, Godric's Hollow, or anywhere else. ~ L

  1. I LOVE that version of Merlin. I need to replace my video tapes with DVD's or Blurays. I even bought the script. Two villains have robbed me of sleep, the wolf from Peter and the Wolf when I was little, and Sauron from Lord of the Rings as a teenager. Who am I kidding? Sauron still freaks me out. Giant flaming eye, really?

  4. Fantastic post! There can't be good guys without the bad guys. Sometimes the bad guys (and especially girls) are the most dynamic and fun to write and read. :)

  5. I love the tales of Merlin and King Arthur. As for Voldemort, no one compares to his evil-ness, played so well by Ralph Fiennes.
