Margo's Musings...Sparkle's Song by Samantha Hale

This week, my little sister, Margo, very poignantly let me know that she wanted me to talk about Sparkle's Song by Samantha Hale for this post. After having read it to her, she continued to forcefully shove the book into my face, exclaiming, "Sparkle is Me!" (I finally got it, lol). Her cheerful giggles and worried expressions fell into place as she listened to this story. She seemed very intrigued by Sparkle's journey into the dark woods and perplexed, yet fascinated, by the talking instruments hiding there. Aunt Millicent made her nervous- Margo couldn't live without music for one day, she literally rocks out all the time : ) I have to add that the illustrations are beautifully whimsical and the story is enchanting. ~ F

Sparkle's name was given to her by her father, inspired by her beautiful, sparkling blue eyes. Her house was filled with laughter and joy; music and dance. Then, one day, her life changed. Sparkle is sent to live with her Aunt Millicent, whose house is nothing short of depressing: no singing, no laughing, no nothing, just silence. On a very quiet afternoon, Sparkle finds herself summoned into the forest by a whimsical wind carrying the sweet notes of a violin... check out Sparkle's Song!

The DMS was lucky enough to interview Samantha Hale. Stop by March 9, 2012 to learn more about this new children's author.

Samantha Hale is very nice. She is a big advocate of the connection between music, people, and love. Her ideas really come through in this story. ~ F
