The DMS Wants to Know!

We're sticking with the topic of survival, inspired by the epic series The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. On Top of the Heap this week, I talked about Katniss's bow and arrow and Lizzy mentioned that she would want Rue's skill of stealth. We wanted to spin the idea on not what skill you would want to have, but what skills you have already learned in your life that you think would help you survive. It reminds me of the movie The Karate Kid, when Mr. Miyagi makes Daniel wash and wax the cars over and over again or paint the fence for hours. Repeating those simple tasks conditioned his mind and body, preparing him for his karate competition. My uncle is a fabulous cook and knows all the herbs and mushrooms that grow outside. He can make a meal out of pretty much anything, which I find amazing. I look at mushrooms in the woods and think they're pretty, but definitely wouldn't feel safe eating them. Knowledge of what plants and fruits are edible can definitely come in  handy. There are so many simple things that we do everyday that could help in a desperate situation, and today, we want to hear from all of you! So, wax on, wax off everyone, let's chat about it! ~ F

This week, The DMS wants to know: What skill do you use in your everyday life that could be beneficial in a survival situation?

We'll tell you ours, if you tell us yours!

  1. I'm pretty useless when it comes to survivalist stuff. That's really awesome though to be able to make a real meal out of just about anything.

  2. I don't have any actual survival skills, but I am a good cook and know most herbs. Even so, I would totally not survive in any survival situation!

  9. I carry lots of tools in my DMS pack that would help me out in a variety of tricky situations. I am very prepared and I think this could be very helpful in survival situations! I am also pretty good at problems solving and figuring things out. :)
