The DMS Wants to Know!

You took a chance on Monday's Riddle, and Lizzy's review of The Million Dollar Shot by Dan Gutman set the scene for a risky adventure. Thursday on Top of the Heap, we shouted out to those who rise to the occasion, and Friday, it was great to hear from Joan Hiatt Harlow and find out more about her stories Thunder from the Sea and Joshua's Song. Today, we hope you'll take a chance and share your thoughts with us!

The DMS wants to know:
What chance have you taken that's made a difference in your life?

We'll tell you ours, if you tell us yours!

  1. I took a chance. I wrote a book. I sold it. It was published. My life has never been the same.

  3. Hmm. Might be when I decided to get a cat earlier this year :D She's changed my life a whole lot. Mostly to the better, but she can be a bit too much at times ;p But I love her. <3

  4. I left my teaching career at UCLA for the elementary school classroom. The kids teach me more than I could ever hope to teach them.

  6. The biggest chance that I think I have ever taken was to stop teaching before I should have...but I am still glad that I did!

  7. I've had a couple - complete change of career at 30 (teaching history to programming), moving continents at 40 (Africa to Europe)- I'm a bit overdue for one now! What always amazes me is when I look back and realise what I've done as I'm naturally quite a stick in the mud type!

  8. Great question! I've taken a bunch of risks, starting with changing my major and transferring to a new university. I've moved about 20 times in my life, for new schools, marriages, and new jobs. Living in Egypt is a risk by itself. But it all worked out great and I'm very happy! :-)

  9. I think I would say to begin a writing career. I haven't left my day job, but the continual process of following your dream has kept me cognizant of the fact that one must surround oneself with the right type of people, or as they say, "you lay with the dogs, you get the fleas." It has been challenging, rewarding, and fun. Great comments by everyone, thanks so much for sharing.
