The DMS Wants to Know!

"Once I knew only darkness and stillness... my life was without past or future... but a little word from the fingers of another fell into my hand that clutched at emptiness, and my heart leaped into the rapture of living."
~ Helen Keller

Monday's Riddle was a play on words, opening up the topic of discussion this week. Thoughts become words, and in essence, tell our stories. Lizzy reviewed Frindle by Andrew Clements, which brings the concept of understanding a word's meaning to light. On Top of the Heap, we put together a post about our favorite sentences, and Friday, Karen Pokras Toz stopped by to chat about her middle grade book, Nate Rocks the World. There are infinite worlds of words out there, and today, we want to hear about your relationship with them!

The DMS wants to know: What arrangement of words (sentence/phrase) moves you?

We told you ours, now let's hear yours!

  1. My favourite at the moment must be these words - not sure who they are by but I think them beautiful......

When you lose your compassion for those in need, When you cast aside your capacity to care,
When you ignore the plight of your fellow man, Then the qualities that once allowed you to rise above and the virtues that once made you human are gone.

  2. Loved the riddle this week!

I collect quotes and write them in a notebook, so the group of words that moves me most will change and depends upon my mood or life situation at the time.

Right now things are changing so quickly I would pick this one:

“We shall never be again as we were!” –Henry James, The Wings of the Dove

    1. Hi Amy, It's great that you collect quotes. The precepts in Wonder by R.J. Palacio are similar to that. Great sentence, and so true! Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us. Always fabulous to hear from you! ~ F

  3. One of my favorite if arrangement of words comes from Kahlil Gibran. I keep it posted on my computer: Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.

  10. So many wonderful quotes!
One of my favorites is from Harry Potter, where Dumbledore says: "From here on in, Harry, I may be as woefully wrong as Humphrey Belcher, who believed the time was ripe for a cheese caldron." All about jumping the gun, I believe.

  11. I read the following in a magazine ad when I was a teenager (20 year ago!) and I've never forgotten it. No author was listed, and I can't remember what the ad was for, so if anyone comes across it and learns who the original author was, please let me know! The lines:

    Days of Gold
    Nights of Fire
    Autumn Does
    My Love Inspire
