The DMS Wants to Know!

Scene from a dog's point of view-  Illustration by Malin Pont
What a fun theme this week! Lizzy and I love to explore different perspectives. It's so interesting to think about the scene that you are in from another point of view. We opened up the topic with Monday's Riddle and then carried it through to Lizzy's review of The Other Slipper, which twists the classic fairy tale, Cinderella, into a whole new adventure. On Top of the Heap we told you about our favorite "other" versions of stories that we know. This week, we are also featuring two unique, new writers among the story- tellers out there for our Debut Author Giveaway Hop and asking the question, if you could see your life through the eyes of someone else, who would it be? Today, we want to know about your favorite tale told through the words of another character.

The DMS wants to know: What is your favorite story written from another perspective?

We told you ours, let's hear yours!

  2. Hmm. You know, I don't think I have one. I understand Stephanie Meyers was working on a Twilight from Edwards perspective. That would have been a fun read.

    1. Donna- Stephanie Meyer has part of Twilight written from Edward's point of view. It can be found on her website and is called Midnight Sun. She has information about it on her site. If you like Twilight- then I bet you will love reading this. I thought it was fascinating. :)

  4. First, my most current favorite book from a different perspective is The Art of Racing in the Rain,

Second, to Sherry. This is horrible. I strongly suggest 1) find a good nerd because even after I thought I'd lost everything, mine was able to recover the files. They were not formatted correctly, but they were there. And #2 either get a exterior C:/ drive and set it to back up regularly or buy Carbonite for $50/year. It automatically backup off site and you'll never loose anything.

    Very sorry about your computer.

    1. Cleemckenzie- I have seen The Art of Racing in the Rain- but haven't read it. Sounds great! Thanks for passing some advice on to Sherry. Computer problems are the worst! ~Stephanie

  5. Oh, Sherry - I'm shaking just thinking about losing everything. I'm a compulsive backer-upper-er hearing people's stories. Good luck with recovery. My favorite POV twist is an old Disney short called Ben and Me about Amos the mouse who helps Ben Franklin design bifocals and Thomas Jefferson write the Declaration of Independence.

    1. Leslie- I agree with you! It is awful to think about losing everything on the computer. I must go back and reread Ben and Me. I read it ages ago and remember liking it. :) ~Stephanie

  6. I am not sure how I want to answer this one... I don't like to change things but the Twilight one from Edward 's view sounds intriguing. I will check that one out. Thank you!

    1. Patty- I know- it can be a tough question. If you like Twilight then I think you will enjoy Midnight Sun because you see Edward's take on everything that happens in the beginning of the book. Also, you find out more about Edward since it is from his POV. :) ~Stephanie

  7. I don't know if this counts, but my favourite retelling is 'Cinder' a modern take on Cinderella, where she is a cyborg! :)

New to your blog and just wanted to say that I love it!

  8. I can't think of any since I read that about Twilight from Edward's point of view. Midnight Sun was flippin' fantastic! I wish she would finish it. I gave such a different view of the cool, reserved Edward. I had to laugh at some of it. It had some dark humor in it like when he first caught a whiff of Bella in Biology or Chemistry class. Just the incredible difference, seeing him so frantic in his mind, as opposed to so composed. I really, really wish she'd finish it!

    1. Hi Heather- I wish she would finish it, too. I enjoyed reading everything from Edward's point of view. In part of the series we got to see Jacob- but not Edward, so it was an interesting change. ~Stephanie

  9. Hmm, nothing jumps out. Interesting to read of a book told from Edward's point of view though personally I'd prefer a read told from Jacob's.
