The DMS Wants to Know!

This week we have been talking about Greek and Roman mythology. Monday's riddle was fun, asking the question, what's in a name? pointing out the different variations of the same deities. Lizzy reviewed The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan, which told the story of three young demigods learning about their ancient powers. And, on Top of the Heap, we shared our favorite Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. Today, we want to hear from all of you!

This week, the DMS wants to know:
What is your favorite Greek or Roman myth? Why?

We'll tell you ours, if you tell us yours!

But I like Artemis, so the stories connected with her probably.

  2. I must go with the legend of Romulus and Remus. I love the idea of a she-wolf taking care of them, and then later they begin Rome.

    1. Donna- What a great one! Reading your comment made me think of Harry Potter 7 and the code names that were used on the secret radio show. :) I haven't thought of that myth in a while. Thanks for bringing it up! ~F

    1. Hi Heidi, I am a big fan of that story too- I included an awesome painting of her in a recent post on last week's DMS Wants to know post- it really captures the spirit of the innocent, unsuspecting girl. Great to hear from you! ~ F

  4. Eros and Psyche. Although Psyche was foolish and lost the trust of her husband, she had the courage to fight and accomplish three impossible tasks to get him back. Of course she was foolish again which almost put her into an endless sleep, but Eros shows his love in return by rescuing her.

I mainly like it because it's so similar to the fairytale East of the Sun, West of the Moon. Or do I like the fairytale because it's so similar to this myth? Both work for me!

  5. I love the story of The Odyssey, partly because my husband is Greek heritage and was named Odysseus. I studied classics in high school and used to love thinking about the sirens trying to lure Odysseus with their beautiful singing voices.

  8. Demeter and Persephone definitely had me. I loved how that myth explained the seasons and dragged the dread Hades into the Mystery. Guess I tend to go to the dark side like Darth. :-)

  9. My favorite is definitely the one about Persephone getting dragged to the Underworld. It's creepy but also kind of strangely romantic, if you really think about it. (Or I could just be weird.) But anyway, that's definitely my favorite one!

    1. Hi Annabelle, It is dark, but strangely romantic, you sort of feel bad for Hades, even though he abducted Persephone. Thanks for stopping by : ) ~ F

  12. I think I would say either the labyrinth one with the Minotaur or Icarus flying too close to the son. I've heard these a lot. Icarus I think because he was actually flying with wings. It's like what we imagine what flying is in the beginning before airplanes. It's like being invincible. Although I will never go on a plane myself :P

The Labyrinth because I like the story behind it. This guy tries to help out his people. He's tired of the suffering. He meets a girl from the enemy side and she ends up helping him all the way through I might add. She did a lot for him and you know why? Because women are amazing. Then I think he ends up breaking her heart. I just really like it.
