Top of the Heap! DMS Favorites...

So, yesterday I popped by Yamina Today: A Literary Blog. She posed the question, what do you think the best book turned movie has been in 2011? That got me thinking. Lizzy and I chatted for a little bit about it, and now we want to hear what you guys have to think. But the question is a little different. What book turned movie is your all time favorite?

I lOVED The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle and I was obsessed with the movie when I first saw it. The film was done perfectly, and the animation was brilliant. I dreamed about the story every night for a long time (I sometimes still like to think about it before I go to sleep) My favorite part is at the very end- I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't read the book or watched the movie, but it is as magical as you can imagine! ~ F

Once content in her forrest, a unicorn overhears two hunters say that she is the last unicorn. Determined to find out what happened to the others, she leaves her home to follow the trail of the lost unicorns. With only the story from a scatterbrained butterfly to go by, she starts on a journey that takes her far from home and challenges her in ways that she never knew were possible.

I have to go with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. My favorite is The Deathly Hallows part 1. I think that the other movies are great too, but I always go to see them with the idea that they are a completely separate thing. I know that it's hard to pack a book like this into a movie- especially when you have to create a vision that everyone can agree with. Can you imagine the pressure! Of course they have to edit out parts and change characters- overall, I think that all of the directors did a good job, but part one of the Deathly Hallows gave me the chills- it was exactly how I pictured it in my head! I have seen it three times, and each time those same chills prickle my spine! ~ L :)

  6. Hah! Can't believe I missed this post!

I found The Last Unicorn at Blockbuster a few years ago when they were getting rid of their VHS collection. I was BUTS about the movie as a child.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to Wal-Mart with my mother and as she was looking through the 5 Dollar DVD bin, I starting jumping up and down hyperventilating. After a minute, I finally said, The Last Unicorn. OH MY GOD.

She rolled her eyes. I don't think she got it.

My oldest daughter read and loved the Peter Beagle classic on which the movie was based, after we saw the movie. I've been thinking of reading and reviewing the book, bc the writing is just so darn amazing.

So glad I'm not the only Last Unicorn nut!

  11. Hmm I'd have to say To Kill a Mockingbird. As much as I adore Potter, TKAM was one of the first classics I read (and watched) and it really affected me in a way few books can. It was just such a fantastic book/movie and the acting was superb.
