Harry Potter: The Boy Who Lived!

Living a lonely and unhappy life with his Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and bratty cousin, Dudley, Harry Potter is treated like garbage. His whole world changes when he turns eleven and there is finally an explanation for all the bizarre events that have ever happened to him. His letter to Hogwarts arrives. Or should I say, Harry’s letter to the magical school of witchcraft and wizardry chases him down, overcoming every obstacle put in its way. He can’t believe his eyes when he tours Diagon Alley, with Hagrid, Hogwarts Gamekeeper, and kindhearted giant. Once the Hogwarts Express picks him up at Platform 9 and 3/4s things really start to get interesting. Along with new friends, Ron and Hermione, Harry will explore and discover spells beyond his wildest dreams and find a place where he truly belongs. If you have ever imagined a fanciful world filled with delicious treats, flying broomstick, and magic that can’t be beat- then you will love Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. What would you do if you suddenly found out you were a wizard? How would you feel knowing that everything you had ever been told had been a lie?

I give this book my highest recommendation for people of all ages. Younger kids will be able to understand the story if they read it with an adult because the book is chock full of great vocabulary words. Everyone will love the characters, who are all unique and well developed. I feel like I really know Harry and his friends. The minute I closed the first book I had to start reading the second one, and I couldn’t stop after that until I was done. Luckily, there are seven amazing books in the Harry Potter series, as well as a variety of companion books. The audios should not be missed, as the reader, Jim Dale, casts a spell on you with the characters he develops with his ever-changing voice. This book should not be missed! I cannot say enough about it!

Has anyone else read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone? Or another book in the series? If so, which is your favorite? (Don’t give anything away.)

Happy Reading!

  2. I thought the Sorcerer's Stone was really cool- when you watch the movies a couple of times, you forget how many awesome things are left out. I loved the part of the book when Harry is in the restricted section of the library under the invisibility cloak and he opens the book that screams, and then Filch tries to find him before he gets out- then he wanders into the room where the mirror of Erised is- they sort of do it in the movie- but it's definitely not as good-

  3. I've read all the books more than 4 times! the movies are good but i've always liked the books best. My favorites are the prisoner of azkaban, the half-blood prince , and the deathly hallows. the 4th is good but not my favorite and i don't like the 5th.

  4. I listen to them almost every night : ) It's so funny, S.E., at first I thought book 5 was too dark, and that Harry, Ron, and Hermoine were fighting too much, but after I read it a couple of times and then listened to Jim Dale read it, it actually became one of my favorites- there's a lot of really cool stuff in 5- like meeting the Order of the Phoenix, and the gnoxys (I know I spelled that wrong) that live in the drapes in Sirius's house- when they have to get rid of all the stuff- and the jewelry box that puts everyone to sleep-Umbridge is the worst though- I can't stand her high-pitched, screeching voice (that's how I hear her in my head) and the whole thing with Harry's detention with her- ugh- creepy-

  5. I love the Harry Potter series. I think 3, 4, 6, and 7 are my favorites- but I really did like them all. I love the character of Sirius- so I think that is part of what made me love 3 so much. I think the author has a great style and I wish she would write more books. I like the movies- but so much gets left out or changed. The books are way better. I haven't listened to them on audio- so I will have to give them a try.

Thanks for the review! It was awesome and made me want to reread some of my favs.

  6. Great review! I wish I got to go to Hogwarts. What a magical series. I loved them all- but I would say that 3-on were my absolute favorites. One of my favorite character is Sirius Black- I think he is so cool and he is an awesome godfather. I also liked in book 4 when the had the Tri-wizard Tournament. I am reading book 7 now, but I will be finished with it before Thanksgiving.

  7. I have only recently read this book myself. It's such a creative idea and I am super impressed that anyone would be able to think of such a thing from the top of their head! But I did find it to be a bit slow and more recommended for the MG myself.
